$5.3 billion of direct investment raised in 2011

Ukraine has raised $5.3 billion of direct investment out of $7.5 billion planned this year, the head of Ukrnatsproekt, Vladyslav Kaskiv, said at an enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers with the President's participation.

"By the end of 2012, the volume of investment may reach $10 billion," he said.

Kaskiv added that a quarter of the funds will be channeled for the national projects. As noted at the meeting by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, the Government intends to bring public investment in 2012 to 5% of GDP, up to 75 billion UAH (1 USD - 7.98 UAH), which is almost 19 billion UAH more than in the current year.

According to the State Statistics Service, a net increase in foreign direct investment in Ukraine in the first half of 2011 totaled $2.452 billion, which is 4.9 times up on the figure for the same period last year.

Foreigners made $2.788 billion of direct investment (+56.4%) in the Ukrainian economy over the said period.
